Hoagies for Out of the Cold
The State College Sunrise Club used its semi-annual hoagie/pizza sale to also give to local non-profits in the area. Club members from the Sunrise Club, Downtown Club and Evening Club all contributed to donate 70 hoagies for distribution to 4 area non-profits to help feed staff and people they serve.

Adopt-A-Highway 2025
Another long-standing State College Sunrise Club service project involves cleaning up a section of Whitehall Road each year. Club members walk along Whitehall Road between Nixon Road and Tadpole Road (Fairbrook) and pick up trash discarded along the road.

Camp Cadet
One of State College Sunrise Club service projects is to support local police at Camp Cadet. Centre County Camp Cadet is a summer camp designed for youth aged 12-15, focusing on personal development through engaging activities led by local law enforcement. Participants will learn valuable skills while enjoying a week of fun and friendship. The camps are split between girls and boys. Each group spends a week at the Camp learning several life skills, having fun and making new friends. At the conclusion of the camp, the campers have a party to celebrate making it through the week together. They have smores, ice cream and make mountain pies.
The Sunrise Rotary members prep several mountain pie types, such as blueberry, cherry, apple and of course pizza (a favorite of many). The club members help the campers put the stuffed bread into the mountain pie makers. Campers then place them in a fire for cooking. Most turn out good but there are always a few that are a little darker than one would want. All were enjoyed and the campers gave the Rotarians a big “THANK YOU” at the conclusion of the event.

Supporting the Downtown Club at Ice Cream Fest
Members of the State College Sunrise Club helped out at the Downtown Club’s Ice Cream Festival held in downtown State College, on Saturday, August 2nd. Jobs included scooping ice cream, being a runner to keep ice cream and other items stocked at the booths, service food and other duties.
Supporting other club service projects and fundraisers is beneficial to all concerned!!
Including all members and shifts, we logged 30 hours of service on this project.

Green Crew Volunteers
The State College Sunrise Rotary Club participates in the State College Arts Festival every year. A team of Rotarians take a 4-hour shift to pick up trash and recyclables from many stations around the festival. It is a hot and smelly job, but we enjoy doing it.
The trash and recycling materials are deposited at a central station for transport to the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority facility for processing. The 3-day event creates tons of waste that would previously go to the landfill, but now a portion is recycled.

Supporting Out of the Cold
During our club spring fundraiser of selling Marianna’s Hoagies and Pizza’s, the club took donations to provide hoagies to a local shelter, out of the cold. This year, we provided 44 hoagies to the shelter for distribution to its guests. They were so thrilled with the donation they immediately put it on their Facebook page.

Clean Up at Centre Lifelink
The State College Sunrise Club organized a “Clean Up” party on May 27th 2025. The clean-up work was done at Centre Lifelink, which is the host site for the club meetings. 11 people participated in cleaning up a large amount of brush, tree limbs, leaves and other debris from the bank next to the facility parking lot.
Special shout-out to Chuck McCole for supplying a lot of the tools and helping with the clean-up.

In Our Community

Pollinators Project
Operation Pollination recognizes the importance of pollinator habitat both restored and maintained on public and private lands. Through collaboration and outreach, an interconnected mosaic of pollinator habitat interspersed between public and private land will be developed to stabilize and/or increase populations of pollinator species throughout your project area.

Adopt A Highway
The State College Sunrise Rotary Club provides on-going TLC to section of a stretch of our local thoroughfare. We maintain a space on Whitehall Road between Nixon and Tadpole Road.

Letters to Santa
The State College Sunrise Rotary Club and The Corner Room help make Yuletide bright for area children by managing Santa’s Mailbox during this Christmas season. A repurposed U.S. Postal Service mailbox located outside The Corner Room allows children a place to deposit their annual letter to Santa—and get a letter back with a special holiday message from Mr. and Mrs. C! Our club is delighted to get “elf it up” every year between Thanksgiving and mid-December.

Park Forest Preschool
The State College Sunrise Rotary Club supports the Park Forest Pre-School with reading books for the students. Each week the club asks local people to come and present on a community topic. To honor the presenter(s) the club donates a book. Each book is marked with the name and date of each presenter.

Other Service
The State College Sunrise Rotary Club has embraced a myriad of service opportunities within our community including helping with clean up at “Arts Fest,” the Central PA 4th Fest Food Drive, and more.

Alone we can do little.
Together we can do much.
